President, UNIVERSITY OF HYOGO, Masayoshi Kiyohara

The University of Hyogo is a multi-discipline university established in 2004 by integrating three prefectural universities, the Kobe University of Commerce, the Himeji Institute of Technology and the College of Nursing Art and Science, Hyogo. Today the University of Hyogo has developed into a major public university in Japan furnishing six schools, eleven graduate schools and four research institutes. In 2009, we established the Graduate School of Landscape Design and Management, the first professional graduate school in the field of agriculture and the environment. In 2010, we launched the Graduate School of Business featuring a unique Healthcare Management Course. Furthermore in 2011, we are planning on opening the Graduate School of Computational Sciences (tentative name) since the next-generation supercomputer will be constructed in Port Island, Kobe.

The University of Hyogo is addressing the creation of new knowledge in a wide range from liberal arts to sciences. At the same time, as a center for knowledge in the community, the university stands supported by, is open and contributes to the community. While we conduct extensive research, such as Picobiology (life science at the atomic level) which was selected as a Global COE Program, we are also engaged in unique educational activities such as the Hyogo-wide Campus System, which enables students to learn about the community in the community. We will also strengthen the function of student support for leading a fulfilling campus life, for example, by establishing the Center for Career Support.

The Center for International Relations supports active interaction with overseas universities, the Center for Life-Long Learning makes every effort to provide research achievements with the community, and the Center for Corporate Relations promotes collaborative research by bridging the gap between the university and the industrial world. This is how the University of Hyogo strives to develop together with the community and contribute to the welfare of the world.
