With the new era at University of Hyogo , the School of Engineering and the Graduate School of Engineering shall exert all possible efforts to generate capable engineers who can take leading roles in the communities and flexibly respond to the increasingly complicated social environments and the rapidly progressing technological innovations.

The School of Engineering has its origin in the Himeji Institute of Technology, which was founded in April 1949 as the College of Engineering . The Graduate Schools of Engineering, which grant Master's and Doctor of Engineering degrees, were established in April 1968 and in April 1981, respectively. The School of Engineering now has three departments: Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, Mechanical and System Engineering, and Materials Science and Chemistry. The Graduate School of Engineering has three postgraduate courses : Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, Mechanical and Systems Engineering, and Materials Engineering. There are 54 professors, 50 associate professors, 3 assistant professors, and 30 research associates. More than 1400 undergraduate students and 275 graduate students are enrolled.

The School of Engineering , through education and research under the concept “Learn to Create,” aims to foster skilled engineers who can truly serve the well-being and safety of humankind and contribute to the progress of culture and the development of industries in Japan and Hyogo Prefecture . The School provides students with an education designed to cultivate higher ethics, to deepen cross-cultural understanding, and to enhance the abilities for global communication. In addition, the students receive highly specialized education and research advice intended to develop expert engineers and scholars equipped with the qualifications and abilities matching international standards.

Students are given guidance both in their studies and university lives in general and enjoy very favorable employment opportunities. Research activity is highly rated and ranked 14th in the University Rankings, 2005 edition, published by Asahi Shinbun-sha.
