He received his MS in Health Education in 1989 from Nippon Sport Science University, Tokyo, and PhD in Medical Science in 1996 from Okayama University Medical School, Okayama, Japan. He was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Epidemiology of the Bloomberg School of Public Health at the Johns Hopkins University (JHSPH), from 2002 to 2003. He spent one year in the Center on Aging and Health, JHSPH. He is an active member of the Japanese Society of Child Health, Japanese Society of Gerontologu, Japanese Society of Public Health, Japanese Society for Hygiene, the Japanese Society of Health Education and Promotion, the Japan Society for Fuzzy Theory and Systems, the Gerontological Society of America, and the International Society of Behavioral Medicine. His latest researches are creation of life and living environments to assist the independence of the elderly persons relation between the depressive symptoms and social activity in the elderly persons, and relation between the depressive symptoms and its factors (i.e., differences in gender, living behavior, family and social supports) in young adolescents. He also conducts the fuzzy analysis in the elderly persons. He is currently teaching Hygiene and Public Health, Growth, Development and Aging, Welfare and Health, and Advance Study of Health Development at his university. His favorite sports are Baseball and Judo.
