2025 GBC・GB Fall Entrance Ceremony

Under a clear autumn sky, we are delighted to welcome promising new students from around the world.

Dear new students, today is a day of joy for you and for your family--many congratulations. We sincerely respect the strenuous efforts you have devoted to your studies, and we are proud of all of you who have become members of our University.

Today's entrance ceremony is graced by Ms. Akiko Kimura, who is representing the Governor of Hyogo Prefecture, as well as honorary consuls, proud parents, and many other distinguished guests. We express our deepest gratitude to you all.

With a history of nearly 100 years, the University of Hyogo is now one of the leading public universities in Japan, with six faculties, nine graduate schools, and five research institutes. The number of undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in the University is approximately 6,700.

The University is promoting advanced interdisciplinary education and research activities based on the SDGs principles of "well-being" and "leaving no one behind". In your studies, you are strongly encouraged to cultivate both critical and creative thinking skills. Please develop a global, multifaceted mindset and entrepreneurial spirit to pioneer a fairer, better world.

Today, we are facing great crises in an age of uncertainty and unpredictability. Digital transformation is reshaping every aspect of our lives. Wars and terrorism inflict enormous casualties and mass displacement. Climate change threatens our very planet. These crises are of human origin--therefore, it is within our power and responsibility to meet these challenges.

Changes for a better world are possible if we confront these issues together. Nothing is destined to stay the same. So, have the courage to step forward toward a peaceful future!

Seven years ago, we launched the GBC, and three years ago, the GB, to nurture professionals of knowledge who can lead a multi-cultural global society and build bridges rather than walls between people. Now, you are new students with dignity and strong values.

Let me say a word about student life. The University regards you as adults and expects you to take responsibility for your actions. You are asked to observe the norms of society and exercise sound self-discipline. Do not be misled by easy words that are difficult to verify or lack objectivity. Careless or self-righteous remarks can wound others deeply. Instead, make good friends with whom you can work hard together--friends who may become lifelong companions--during your vibrant student life.

Please also keep in mind with gratitude that your education is financially supported by many generous corporations, whose names are displayed on the plaque at the entrance of Global House.

Strive to be decent, honest, and fair!

Let us join hands to create new value and hope in a chaotic world while sharing both joys and sorrows and being grateful for the blessings we receive.

We extend our warm greetings to each of you on this new beginning, and we trust that you will have many happy and exciting years ahead.
Congratulations, and welcome to the GBC and GB family.
